Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do your tutors possess?

Our tutors are highly qualified professionals with extensive experience in teaching and mentoring students and are committed to providing quality education. We have a rigorous selection process to ensure that our tutors are skilled, knowledgeable, and dedicated to helping students succeed.

What age groups do Open Minds cater to?

We cater to students of various age groups from 5-16-year-olds, from primary school to high school. Our programs are designed to meet the specific learning needs of each age group, ensuring that students receive appropriate instruction and support.

What subjects do Open Minds offer?

Our tuition centers offer a wide range of subjects, including mathematics, English language and literature, and science (physics, chemistry, biology),  and exam preparation for 11 plus, Sats, and GCSE Exams.

Do you teach Home-Schooled children?

Our tuition is ideal for children who are studying at home, as it provides a learning environment with other children, which may be missing at home. We follow the school curriculum for Maths and English so you can be assured they will cover the essential material required for the National Curriculum in an effective and sensitive way. We can also help them with preparation for the GCSE exams in English and Maths.

Do you teach Gifted Children?

Yes, we can offer them extension work and an opportunity to tackle more interesting work. Gifted children are often not stretched at their school as teachers in schools often struggle to extend a gifted child.

How long are the sessions?

Each session in the Centre is 60 minutes long and is made up of a variety of activities. During the course of the session, your child will be given both traditional and computer-based work to do. Younger children have a greater number of shorter activities, and older ones will spend longer on each task. At the end of each session, the teacher will give you feedback about their progress and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.

How much notice do I need to give if I need to reschedule a lesson?

We appreciate receiving notice of any schedule changes as early as possible. Ideally, please inform us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule a lesson. This allows us to make the necessary arrangements and accommodate your request.

You can contact our center directly via phone or email to notify us about a missed lesson or to request a reschedule.

Can I receive a refund for missed lessons?

We apologize, but we do not offer refunds for missed lessons. Our tuition fees are based on the availability of the tutor and the reserved time slot. Even if a lesson is missed due to unforeseen circumstances, the tutor’s time and resources have already been allocated for that session. However, we encourage you to notify us in advance if you are unable to attend a lesson, and we will make an effort to accommodate and provide value and support to our students. You can contact us to receive study materials or resources related to the missed lesson, which can help you catch up on the material covered.

Do you offer free assessments at your tuition center?

Yes, we offer free assessments for students who are interested in joining our tuition center. These assessments help us understand the student’s current academic level, identify areas of strengths and weaknesses, and determine the most suitable program or course for their needs.

What do we need to bring for the assessment?

You don’t need to bring any special equipment to the Assessment. We will provide you with all the equipment you need for the test. You may either wait in the waiting area or drop and pick them after the assessment.

After the assessment, we can feed back to you by phone about their abilities and advise the most appropriate way forward. We will describe and discuss the outcome of the assessment with you and discuss the suitable times/days available.
